Realme Narzo 20 Pro Review

Realme Narzo 20 Pro Review

Hey everyone

I hope y’all are doing good.

realme – a very well known smartphone brand in India and the globe introduced their Narzo series back in May this year. The company introduced devices like the Narzo 10 and Narzo 10A in India. Now the company has introduced successors to the Narzo 10 series as Narzo 20, Narzo 20A and a new top device as the Narzo 20 Pro.

Today we are going to review the Narzo 20 Pro. In this thread, we will check if the Narzo 20 Pro is worth buying or worth spending your hard-earned money or not.

So let’s just dive into it.

Talking about the realme Narzo 20 Pro, it is nothing but a realme 7 with slight internal changes made to it. The changes made in Narzo 20 Pro make it stand out amongst the competition. It comes with features that no other device in the segment brings on board. It comes with features like 65W Super Dart charging which no other manufacturer offers in the segment or even a level higher than that.

Quick Unboxing:

The realme Narzo 20 Pro comes in a typical realme styled yellow colour box with Dark Grey/Black fonts. We get Narzo 20 Pro written on the front along with the No.1 Quality smartphone brand logo at the left top portion. The box has some quick specifications and features mentioned on the backside along with IMEI and variant stickers.

Opening up the box gets you a yellow-coloured insert that holds the soft silicone case as well as some documentation. After that, we are greeted with the Narzo 20 Pro itself wrapped in a protective plastic cover. Now removing it from the plastic cover, we get the Narzo 20 Pro in Ninja Black colour with a ‘V-shaped reflective pattern on the backside. Take a deeper look inside the box and you’ll see a big realme branded charging brick with SUPERDART printed on it. Taking a closer look at the charger, you’ll notice it has an output of 10V/6.5A which means it’s not only big in size but in output also. With this white power adapter, we get a white colour USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable with Yellow ascents in it. After that we get. Sim ejector tool placed in Yellow card.

In-Box Contents:

The realme Narzo 20 Pro comes in two different colour variants wiz. Black Ninja and White Knight. The White Knight colour of Narzo 20 Pro has borrowed design clues from the realme 7i.

As expected, we are greeted with the below-mentioned box contents after opening it,

1.      realme Narzo 20 Pro smartphone with protection guard

2.      Quick Start Guide & warranty booklet

3.      65W SuperDart Power brick(10W/6.5A max output)

4.      USB Type-A to USB Type-C Cable

5.      Silicone protective case

6.      Sim ejector pin

Design and Build:

The Narzo 20 Pro borrows design elements from the realme 7. It has got the power button on the right which also has an integrated fingerprint scanner. On the left side, we get Volume rockers and a Sim slot. Opening up the SIM slot gets you a slot that can hold 2 SIMs and a Micro SD card. So that means realme has taken good care of expandable storage by not going with the Hybrid SIM slot route.

The top is totally clean without even a noise-cancelling microphone.

Taking a look at the bottom, we get our beloved 3.5mm headphone jack, primary microphone, USB Type-C port and finally main speaker grills.

On the front side, we get a big 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. The display resolution has been upped to 1080p instead of 720p in the Narzo 10. For the selfie shooter, realme has opted for a punch hole instead of a waterdrop notch which makes it much more premium.

Going to the backside of realme Narzo 20 Pro, we get a polycarbonate back and that is what we expected from a mid-range smartphone. There is a slip on the back which houses all the camera sensors and LED flash. The camera module brings a little hump to it but this is what we see as a trend in 2020 smartphones.

The buttons’ placement is great and are easily accessible. We tried the buttons and found them to be tactile and clicky.

Speaking of the fingerprint scanner, it is present on the right side which is embedded in the power button. The fingerprint scanner used is fast and accurate and I had no complaints while using it.

Display and Multimedia:

Speaking of the display used in realme Narzo 20 Pro, we get a 6.5-inch Full HD+ (2400x1080p) IPS LCD display with a typical brightness of 480 Nits. The display in Narzo 20 Pro is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass however the company hasn’t mentioned anything about which version of Gorilla Glass they have used. The display uses a refresh rate of 90Hz and a screen-to-body ratio of 90.5% which makes it look premium when compared with the Narzo 10 with a waterdrop notch. The Full HD+ display used in realme Narzo 20 Pro is of good quality. Viewing angles are great and so is the colour reproduction in the Narzo 20 Pro. We tried the display in outdoor conditions and it was perfectly fine with a max brightness of upto 480nits.

Speaking of multimedia, we get a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio streaming.

The device also features the much-acclaimed Widevine L1 certification which means you’ll be able to stream HD content on popular streaming platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix etc.

The speaker present in Narzo 20 Pro is a bottom-firing one and could be easily blocked by your hand when watching something or playing any game. Talking about the loudness, it is adequately loud and clear. The quality is also surprisingly good considering the budget segment.

Performance:

As you’ve seen realme 7 performing very well with the Helio G95 chipset, we expect similar performance from the Narzo 20 Pro. The device is powered by the same MediaTek Helio G95 chipset present in the realme 7 as well. The Helio G95 is a great update to the Helio G85 found in the Narzo 10 or even the Narzo 20. The chipset is capable of delivering everything thrown at it. It gets 2 cores of Cortex A76 clocked at 2.05GHz and 6 different cores of Cortex A55 clocked at 2 GHz. This architecture lets you use the Cortex A76 cores for heavy performance and the Cortex A-55 for less resource-hungry tasks.

realme has already made it clear that the Narzo series is focused on gaming and performance. With that in mind, we had high hopes for the realme Narzo 20 Pro and I can confidently say that I was not disappointed.

I am not a gamer but tried some basic titles like Subway Surfers, and Free Fire and it was performing perfectly fine. The Mali G76 MC4 GPU present in the Narzo 20 Pro is performing very well and is able to handle graphics in high settings.

In a nutshell what I can confidently say is if you have used realme 7 before, you’ll be happy to use the Narzo 20 Pro as well. One can expect similar performance from the Narzo 20 Pro as well.

Although these numbers do not matter much still ran some benchmarks and the results are displayed below,

Software and UI:

The realme Narzo 20 Pro comes with Android 10 out of the box. The software is based on realme UI that is much more polished and bloat-free than Color OS. We get AOSP/Stock Android-inspired look and feel in the realme UI. The company will also push the realme UI 2.0 update to the Narzo 20 Pro along with Android 11.

The stock Android feel is prominent and visible throughout the UI as it has Google apps instead of Color OS ones.

The user interface brings an app drawer that was not available in the Color OS and icons were available on home screens only. Although it brings an app drawer but gives you an option to go back to the home screen-based UI where all the apps are placed on your home screen only.

Some quick features of realme UI include customisable design, custom icons, custom colours, new global theme colour, new Always On Display choices, AI-based wallpapers, more seamless fonts, much improved and comfortable dark mode, improved privacy and data safe, hidden apps, Safe payments, App permission manager, Dual-mode music share, floating multi-window and much more.

Cameras:

The Narzo 20 Pro has a major downgrade from the realme 7 in the camera department. It brings a 48MP sensor compared to the 64MP sensor present in the realme 7 but doesn’t let the numbers judge you.

It gets a 48MP sensor from Samsung and is a 1/2″ type sensor with an f/1.8 aperture lens and a 26mm lens. In terms of other cameras, we get an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a 119-degree field of view and a 16mm lens. The aperture size of the ultra-wide angle lens is f/2.3. Talking about other sensors, we get a 2MP Black and White Portrait lens with 6 different filters and an f/2.4 aperture. The 4th snapper in narzo 20 Pro is a 2MP 4cm macro lens with an aperture of f/2.4.

Speaking of the camera performance, the device is performing surprisingly well in well-lit conditions.

For low-light photography, there is a special Super Nightscape mode present to take beautiful low-light shots.

The main camera used in realme Narzo 20 Pro gets you good shots in natural light and is a capable one.

Speaking of the ultra-wide-angle lens, we get good colours but it lacks details as with every device in the segment. For high-quality shots from an Ultra wide-angle lens, you need to shell out a bit more and get more premium devices.

Macro and portrait shots are attached below for your reference.

On the front side, we get a widely used 16MP Sony IMX 471 sensor with an f/2.1 aperture. This sensor is been in use on realme smartphones since the realme XT/X2. We get features like Timelapse, Front Panorama, Beauty mode, Flip Selfie, Nightscape, Portrait mode etc. The front camera lets you shoot upto 1080p at 30fps and slo-mo at 120fps.

Connectivity:

In the connectivity department, the realme Narzo 20 Pro has you covered with its 3-card slot that lets you use 2 SIM cards and a Micro SD card. It uses LTE bands such as FDD-LTE 1/3/5/8 and TD-LTE bands 38/40/41 which is what is being used by telecom players in the country.

In the Wi-Fi connectivity department, the device is equipped with dual-band Wi-Fi using 2.4GHz/5GHz Wi-Fi speeds. It has also got support for Wi-Fi Calling.

Battery life:

Till now we have everything in realme Narzo 20 Pro to be good may it be performance, gaming, camera or software. Now it’s time for us to put some light on the battery life of the Narzo 20 Pro. The device comes with a 4500mAh battery which is good enough.

To make the deal even sweeter, the company has bundled the Narzo 20 Pro with a 65W Super Dart fast charging which the company promises to charge from 0 to 100% in 38 minutes. But I don’t let my phone go below 15%. So a half an hour quick fill was able to get my device to 100%. So I’m extremely happy with the battery life and charging capabilities of the Narzo 20 Pro.

I can surely confirm that no other manufacturer offers this kind of combination in the under-15k segment in India. We get devices with an 18-30W charger in this segment and that’s the max.

Talking about the actual battery life, it was easily giving me 6 – 7 hours of SoT in moderate to heavy usage with Vi and Jio both SIM installed at the same time and that too on 90Hz. If you reduce the refresh rate to 60Hz, I’m sure you’ll get 7 hours of SoT with ease.

Verdict:

The new realme Narzo 20 Pro is a new device in the narzo series. It is a device placed against the realme 7 but do not get confused between these two. The company has given you 2-3 major differentiating factors to choose from depending upon that you can choose what is more important to you.

Some things worth mentioning in Narzo 20 Pro are its amazing performance, great gaming capabilities, above-than-average camera, polished software (although there is still room for improvement), good design and much more. It is easily one of the best smartphones in the sub-15k segment in the Indian market. What sets it apart from the competition is Ad free software (Technically it’s not ad-free but much improved compared to MIUI in Redmi smartphones), a 90Hz smooth display, a gaming processor, price tag and a great display.

It was all about my view on the realme Narzo 20 Pro. Do share your opinion in the comment section

Thank you
