Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G aims to bring 5G to masses

Qualcomm is the World leader when it comes to mobile/smartphone chipset. We have seen many new chipsets every year from Qualcomm taking the performance benchmarks to another level.

Qualcomm currently delivers chipsets in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4xx, Snapdragon 6xx, Snapdragon 7xx and the Snapdragon 8xx series where the Snapdragon 4xx series stands in the ultra-budget segment, the Snapdragon 6xx series is seen in the budget segment, the Snapdragon 7xx series is mostly found in the mid-range segment and finally, the Snapdragon 8xx series sitting at the top tier with flagship smartphones from different manufacturers.

We have already seen chipset from Qualcomm for 2021 in the top tier Snapdragon 8xx series and that is called the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 mobile platform. We will soon get new processors in other segments as well.

Today Qualcomm is unveiling another new product in their Snapdragon mobile platform lineup. The latest product from Qualcomm under the Snapdragon lineup comes under the 4xx series and is called the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G. As the world is g moving towards 5G, the ultra-budget chipset from Qualcomm is also going 5G this year. As the name suggests, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G mobile platform is a 5G supported chipset with Snapdragon X51 5G Modem-RF System which gets support for millimetre waves as well as Sub 6 Ghz. It also gets support for standalone 5G and Dual SIM Standby.

Speaking of the architecture, the Snapdragon 480 5G mobile platform is based on 9nm architecture and uses 8 Custom Kryo 460 cores which are clocked at 2GHz each. For gaming needs, the chipset is powered with Adreno 619 GPU and a Hexagon 686 processor for heavy games. Other features include support for 120Hz Full HD+ display of any nature. It also gets support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+. These features making its way to the budget segment seems the future is even more exciting for budget devices.
